Sustainable transport: less emissions, less noise, more efficiency

The logistics sector is facing a major challenge: how can we meet increasingly strict environmental regulations without compromising efficiency? The shift toward more sustainable solutions is no longer optional — it’s essential.

At Weerts Supply Chain, we’re leading that transition with next-generation electric trucks in our distribution fleet. These vehicles drastically reduce CO₂ emissions, operate more quietly, and are ideally suited for urban deliveries. Perfect for companies looking to combine sustainability with reliable logistics.

Why electric trucks also boost efficiency

Switching to electric vehicles isn’t just an environmental decision — it’s a strategic move with tangible benefits for companies aiming to build an efficient and future-ready supply chain.

Lower energy consumption, lower emission

Electric trucks can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 49 tons per vehicle each year. A powerful lever to help companies reach their sustainability goals and shrink their carbon footprint. For many organizations, sustainable transport is becoming increasingly important in tenders and partnerships.

Quiet transport, ideal for city deliverie

Electric trucks generate up to 50% less noise than traditional diesel trucks. That makes them ideal for urban areas, where noise pollution is an ever-growing concern in legislation and city planning.

Night deliveries or drop-offs in residential neighbourhoods can therefore take place more efficiently and without disruption.

Reliable deliveries without depending on external charging infrastructure

One of the biggest challenges with electric freight transport is access to charging stations. At the time we purchased our trucks, Belgium had very few rapid charging stations for heavy-duty vehicles.

That’s why Weerts Supply Chain invested in its own charging infrastructure. The result? Complete operational autonomy, without delays caused by external factors — and full control over the logistics chain.

Efficient logistics, without compromising on transport capacity

With a capacity of 20 pallets and a load capacity of eight tons, our electric trucks are perfectly suited for fine-grained urban distribution.

They carry just as much cargo and ensure the same delivery reliability as traditional diesel trucks — but operate more quietly and with significantly lower CO₂ emissions.

Sustainable transport? A smart and conscious choice

Switching to electric isn’t something you do overnight. We carefully analysed which routes, goods flows, and logistics processes were most suitable for electrification.

Ideal for structured and efficient distribution flows

Electric transport turned out to be the most logical choice for distribution in urban areas. This type of distribution requires reliable, clean and efficient deliveries. Our trucks often follow fixed routes and have sufficient charging opportunities between trips.

With a range of 350 km and more, our electric trucks are perfectly suited for these operations.

Happy drivers, more efficient routes

Our drivers played a crucial role in the transition to electric. Their feedback helped us fine-tune the process and ensure a smooth switch.

The verdict? Electric trucks offer a comfortable driving experience, free from vibrations and loud engine noise. That means less fatigue, better focus, and more efficient delivery rounds.

Our roadmap towards a sustainable fleet

Making transport more sustainable requires a smart, phased approach. These are the three key steps we’ve taken:

  1. Identify the transport flows most suitable for electrification
  2. Install reliable charging infrastructure at or near distribution hubs
  3. Involve drivers and logistics teams early in the implementation process

Electric isn’t enough – what else is needed?

Electrification is just one part of our broader sustainability strategy. Not all transport flows are currently suitable for full electrification, so we continuously look for alternatives that reduce CO₂ emissions without compromising operational efficiency.

One of the solutions we’ve implemented is HVO100 — a renewable fuel that offers a direct and practical step toward greener transport. HVO100 is produced from waste oils and residues and can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional diesel. It’s a powerful alternative for routes where electric vehicles are not yet the best fit.

The advantage? No additional investment required! HVO100 can be used in existing diesel engines without any modifications. This makes it a cost-efficient way to make your fleet more sustainable — without needing to replace it entirely.

By combining electric vehicles with renewable fuels, we ensure our logistics remain not just greener, but also flexible and scalable.

Sustainability as a strategic decision

Sustainable transport goes beyond reducing CO₂. It’s a strategic decision that shapes how a company positions itself in a rapidly evolving market.

Sustainability as a competitive edge

More and more companies select their logistics partners based on environmental performance. By working with a partner that invests in both electrification and renewable fuels, you accelerate your own sustainability efforts and strengthen your brand reputation.

Ready for stricter regulations

In the years ahead, emission zones and environmental rules will become even stricter. By investing now in zero-emission transport and alternative fuels, businesses can stay ahead of the curve and avoid future restrictions or added costs.

A smart long-term investment

Electric trucks currently require a higher upfront investment, but their operating costs are becoming increasingly attractive. Lower energy prices, reduced maintenance, and potential subsidies make this a smart long-term choice.

Combined with alternative fuels like HVO100 or LNG, it’s a flexible and future-ready solution.

By expanding our sustainable distribution fleet, we’re taking another major step toward greener, more efficient logistics — and helping other companies do the same.

Smarter logistics with lower CO₂ emissions
